Then you need to get out with where the real people are. I hear this frequently when I'm with groups of people that have been in the area long enough to remember.
I get out plenty with real people and I don't hear them talk about this. Most of the radio talk I hear is about Gerry House, Phil Valentine or one of the other morning hosts.
The market has changed demographically since the heyday of WKDF as a rock station.
When I hear people in this market talk about radio, they do talk about Gerry House, or about 104.5, the Zone. Most radio conversations I get into with somewhat casual listeners like me, though, turn into "pine" fests about the "good old days" of radio quite a bit. But not only do they want KDF to be a classic rock station, they want a return of either Y107, Kicks 104, or 96 Kiss. Then there's the handful who pine for WSM 95's soft rock days. Some want to see screaming Top 40 style jocks return, to give radio punch or excitement. More recently, people still talk about missing Rick and Bubba here. One thing's crystal clear to me, people in Nashville are bored with most of their local radio choices.
Yes, Yes, Yes...give me all news! Not news/talk, LOCAL NEWS! I'm still hooked on WBBM-AM in Chicago on clear nights, for goodness sake.
IF you could blend WSM-AM's old news department (I always thought it was done the right way), kick in the early-mid '80's WLAC-AM news blocks (where is Dave Miller?), throw in some David Tower, and have Sherman Novoson get the sound and you'd have a real station. This is not intended as a complete list nor designed to cut out the "newer" talent in the market...I'm open.
Too bad this will never happen in Nashville because 1) it's expensive and a hard sell; 2) FM is still not receptive to the idea, and 3) AM, sadly, is the vinyl LP of radio...great to look back on, but nobody uses it anymore.
Depends on the air talent they bring in instead. Really, their current air talent would be good under different circumstances. Basically, what the market wants has apparently changed.
Depends on the billing whether or not corporate likes it. Depends on whether they think they can bill more with something else. May wait until ABC merger.

As much as the whole market wants it to, I doubt it.
But, the new coat of paint could be the last ditch effort???
"Whole market?"
Aside from the message boards and a few radio types nostalgic for what was, I've heard nobody pine for the "good old days."

The fact that ratings released on April 4 lists The Wolf as the top country station, and KDF slipping even further, says Change is Coming Soon!
Okay Birthday Bash is over, and ratings are down, how long will it bleed before a change? Any time predictions? CHR or Rock, what's it gonna be?
Suppose they change some of their air talent? Will that make a difference?

Dave Kelly is in charge of the Citadel operation in Nashville now. 'KDF will stay country.
So it's okay with Citadel corp if WKDF continues to lose the 3 way country battle, as long as it's what Dave wants?
Sorry but the last I heard Corp doesn't work like that.
6 months, and changes....that's my two cents.
