I think there will be hype in the beginning and an intial push forward, but in the end, Steve Dickert's problems with the corporate way of doing radio that he had at Citadel will be the same if not more inside the Cumulus Camp. With an attempt to buy the Atlanta Braves and Susquhana Media, Cumulus will be strapped for cash and money is really the only thing that can fix some of the glaring holes inside Cumulus. Steve is a great guy and will do positive things there however in the end game the apple is still rotten to the core and that is the Dickey's and them alone.
1. "Hype" isn't heard or seen about any station's new management. The only people that are hyped by stations are talent.
2. If you had a small budget to buy food, but you could get anyone to cook it for you, wouldn't you think Emeril could do a better job than a fast-food cook? If you've got a tight budget for your cluster, and you've got one of the best in the area to run it for you, wouldn't you think they could do more with what they have rather than some one with a lesser track record?
Funny. GP is not "very, very disillusioned with Citadel and their direction or lack there of." AND "They won't pay him." is not true. GP is disillusioned with the fact that Steve was shown the door but do you think that he would work for Cumulus? Remember they are the ones that sued him.So no George will not go to work for Cumulus no matter if Steve does or they buy the Braves. And I'll add this, When Steve does not land George HE will be shown the door. Sad as it might be. Don't get me wrong Steve is a great guy but he is just a tool to get George. Oh and look for word on his contract with Citadel by the end of the month.
Get the facts straight: While it is often assumed that Cumulus encouraged Gaylord to sue GP, the fact remains that it was Gaylord, not Cumulus, who sued GP. Steve's knowledge of, and success in the market was why Cumulus hired him. They're not as concerned about GP as you would think, since they are competing with him well for adult listeners (although not with the Fan). Meanwhile, there are two things that GP would prefer not to have in his current situation: Fox and Rome. But that will change over time due to the upcoming Citadel - Disney relationship.
Ok seems you need a fact check. Cumulas DID push Gaylord to sue George. Ask George he was the one in that court. And the relationship is with ABC not Disney. True fact about Steve he does know the market. Now tell us this, why is Cumulas telling any one who will listen that they will sign George if they are not concerned about him? Why ary they telling The Predators that George will work for them? Why have they said that something big will be announced this past Monday? This past Wednesday? Nothing. All Cumulas is doing is sending rumors into the air with nothing to back them up. Steve is good but even he can not walk on water.
I wasn't suggesting Cumulus didn't want Gaylord to sue, I was just stating that in the end it was Gaylord's name on the suit and not Cumulus's.
Disney owns ABC Radio. It's Disney that's selling ABC Radio. And if you've kept up with the trades, you know that while Radio Disney and ESPN Radio aren't part of the sale, it is projected there will be a relationship with Disney on those two remaining properties once the sale is done.
Now, no one who works over on Division has said to me they're trying to sign George, but if someone's saying it, they're just doing so to take advantage of his current unfortunate medical condition (and yes, the condition is very real).
Dickert most likely told Dickey he wanted the personnel gone from the Fan before he got to town so he wouldn't have to start his new job with some firings. It's a typical request by incoming management.
"The ultimate result of this is that George Plaster and crew will be back on 99.7 by this time next year.".....Ever heard of a No compete clause in GP's contract? Get your fabricated rumors straight.
Yes, non-competes can be bought out or waited out. Sitting out 6 months would be nothing new. George learned sitting out that long wouldn't hurt his numbers or appeal. If he can get paid he might just do it.
So Steve has been at it for almost a week now and George is still at The Zone! Dang thought he would have him by now! Oh hold I know George hasn't been on the air and is holding out. Thats it!

I heard about this one only two days ago. I expect to see friendly competition in this town heat up. Get set. The radio listener will be the winner.

GP has already had discussions with Cumulus and is very, very disillusioned with Citadel and their direction or lack there of.
They won't pay him so he is looking at 99.7 where the man that brought him to Citadel is now employed.
It doesn't hurt that Cumulus owners are bidding on the Atlanta Braves, GP's lifelong dream is to broadcast the Braves.
Irony

It's ridiculous that Organ's fanning the flames of this rumor in his column today.
I would say it's irresponsible at the least.

Paid by whom? The old station couldn't pay, and the if the new station pays, that's breach of contract in defiance of the non-compete.
